Dirk Arnold is an MD PhD, Professor of Oncology at the University Hamburg.
Currently, he is holding the position as Director of Asklepios Tumorzentrum Hamburg, a network cancer centre, and chairman of the Department for Oncology, Hematology, Pneumology and Rheumatology at AK Altona, Hamburg. From 2015 to 2017, he has served as Director of oncology services at the Instituto CUF de Oncologia in Lisbon, Portugal.
His main research interests include the treatment of gastrointestinal and genitourinary cancers, specifically in molecular-targeted therapies, immunotherapy, multimodal treatment strategies and early drug developments.
Professor Arnold served as founder and chairman of the Colorectal Cancer Study Group of the AIO, one of the globally leading academic study groups. He is a key member of several German and other international cancer societies, including the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), where he serves as an Executive Board member and Executive Council member. Within the ESMO Faculty, was Section Editor for guidelines in gastrointestinal cancers in the Guideline Committee and is Section Editor for gastrointestinal cancers for Annals of Oncology. He is also Co-Chair of the Task Force Colorectal Cancer at the Gastrointestinal Cancer Study Group of the EORTC. He has published more than 250 peer-review manuscripts on management of gastrointestinal cancers, and various book chapters.
