Emerik Osterlund, MD, PhD, is an advanced postdoctoral fellow at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and a medical oncologist in training in Turku, Finland. He earned his PhD at Uppsala University, Sweden, with a dissertation on “Predictive and Prognostic Factors in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer.”
His research focuses on practical ways to improve care for people with colorectal cancer. He leads and supports clinical and translational studies on circulating tumor DNA with the aim of sharpening minimal residual disease detection and treatment monitoring. He also examines the biology behind circulating tumor DNA dynamics, using bioinformatic analyses of tumor-derived RNA and DNA to understand how and why tumors shed circulating tumor DNA.
