Dr Roel Hompes holds an MD degree from the KU Leuven and PhD from the University of Amsterdam. He has undergone extensive training in the field of Coloproctology and completed postgraduate training in two renowned Colorectal and IBD expert centres (Leuven and Oxford). From 2013 untill 2017 he worked as a consultant at the department of colorectal surgery in Oxford with a specialist interest in minimal invasive rectal cancer management and IBD. Since October 2017 he is a full staff member of the Surgical Division, department of lower GI surgery of the Amsterdam University Medical Centres in Amsterdam. His main research interest involves surgical innovation, management strategies for rectal cancer and in particular low rectal cancer, complex IBD, management of pelvic sepsis and fluorescent guided surgery.
