Dr. Caterina Foppa is a colorectal surgeon in the Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital and Assistant Professor of General Surgery at Humanitas University in Milan, Italy. She also earned a PhD in Surgical and Anesthesiology Sciences in 2021 with a thesis focused on robotic rectal cancer surgery. Her main research interests are: early-onset colorectal cancer, anastomotic techniques: in particular the TTSS (transanal transection and single-stapled) anastomosis -developed by Prof Spinelli—, the management of early rectal lesions and minimally invasive approaches for both benign and malignant colorectal diseases. Dr. Foppa is actively engaged in the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP), where she has served on the Y-ESCP committee and is currently a member of both the Research and Education Committees. She contributes to the society’s pT1 rectal cancer guideline development and was recently involved in the joint UEG–ESCP–EAES–SIS-E project on surgical site infection guidelines for gastrointestinal surgery. Her academic work extends to editorial activities: she has served as Editor for Techniques in Coloproctology, Colorectal Disease, and Diseases of the Colon and Rectum, and as a member of the Reviewer’s Guild for Diseases of the Colon and Rectum. She is currently member of the Associate Editorial Board of the British Journal of Surgery (BJS).
