Speaker Bio
Alberto Puccini is a medical oncologist and researcher, currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Humanitas University and Gastrointestinal Medical Oncologist at IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital since 2023. Born in Genoa in 1991, he has long nurtured a deep passion for medicine and scientific investigation. He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Genoa in 2016 and completed his specialization in Medical Oncology in 2023 under the mentorship of Professor Alberto Sobrero.
Since his third year of medical school, Puccini has been continuously engaged in clinical research. In March 2013, he joined a supplementary research training program in Oncology at the University of Genoa, under Professor Sobrero’s supervision, gaining early exposure to clinical research methodologies and principles. This experience ultimately led to a one-year Postdoctoral Fellowship (2017–2018) in the laboratory of Professor Heinz-Josef Lenz at the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of Southern California, Los Angeles. During that period, he contributed to multiple translational and clinical research projects, building a strong scientific foundation, cultivating collaborations with colleagues across national and international institutions, and expanding his expertise in gastrointestinal cancers—his current core research focus. In recent years, he has led several research initiatives as Principal Investigator and sub-investigator, including both translational studies and clinical trials in gastrointestinal oncology.
Throughout his career, Puccini has actively contributed to the oncology community through various institutional and organizational roles. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Italian Association for Hereditary and Familial Tumors (AIFET), is a member of the Italian Association of Medical Oncology (AIOM) Young Investigators Working Group, and previously served on the MAC Steering Committee of the EORTC, supporting the advancement of methodological approaches in clinical research.
Scientific research remains a cornerstone of his professional commitment. He is the author of over 80 publications in high-impact scientific journals, primarily focused on biomarkers and translational studies in gastrointestinal cancers, as well as innovative strategies and personalized approaches for patients with Lynch syndrome.
Alongside his research, Puccini is strongly dedicated to academic teaching and mentorship. He has had the privilege of lecturing at respected institutions, including the International Summer School at the University of Copenhagen. His overarching mission is to bridge cutting-edge scientific discovery with clinical practice, ensuring personalized patient care and delivering high-quality education to students and trainees.
Beyond the realm of medicine, music occupies an important place in his life. He holds a diploma in piano performance, an artistic pursuit that has enriched his perspective, creativity, and interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving.
Alberto Puccini is driven by the belief that science and humanity must always go hand in hand. Each day, he strives to contribute to the advancement of oncological care while maintaining a steadfast dedication to the well-being of his patients and their families.
